“PROOF” was the winner of the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and Tony Award for Best Play. It was later made into a major film starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Jake Gyllenhaal and Anthony Hopkins. It is the powerful story of a dedicated daughter haunted by her genius father’s past and her own future. Catherine (played by Rachael Uyeno) is dealing with the aftermath of her father’s death. Robert, her father (played by Paul T. Mitri), was an icon of the math world who slowly descended into the madness of schizophrenia and dementia, leaving Catherine to care for him for 5 years. Catherine’s older sister, Claire (played by Hannah Schauer Galli), has kept her distance but financially supported the reclusive pair and now wants to plan Catherine’s life. Robert’s former student, Hal (played by Alex Munro), searches through his mentor’s 103 notebooks hoping to find something worth publishing. A timid relationship begins between Catherine and Hal, which explodes with the discovery of a major mathematical proof, and the realization that there is a thin line between the inheritance of genius and madness.
