In 2016, the Hawaii State Theatre Council and HittingTheStage.com joined forces to create a source of information about Hawaii's local theatres and the community of playwrights, directors, crewmembers, actors, volunteers, and audience that support it. Welcome to our new website!

Don't Miss Any of These Upcoming Productions from the Leeward Theatre!

Mahalo nui to all for your continuous support.  The Leeward Theatre is currently undergoing a major renovation thanks to the generous support of the Legislature, the Governor, and the University of Hawaii.

Although we have a reduced season, we're not completely dark.

As our 42nd season comes to a close, we invite you to come out and watch our upcoming productions for April and May.  We've got an exciting queue lined up with a little of everything for everyone!

We hope to see you at our upcoming shows!

A Comedy of Errors
Thursday April 13, 2017 to Saturday April 22, 2017

The Comedy of Errors is Shakespeare earliest comedy and shortest surviving play. Separated at birth, two sets of long-lost twins are loose in the same town.  Mistaken identities make for hilarious complications: servants are sent on wrong errands, jewelry is given to the wrong person, and husbands are locked out of their own homes.

Spring Guitar Concert
Sunday April 23, 2017

Join us for an afternoon of guitar ensembles, duets and solos.  The Leeward Coast Guitars--directed by Peter Frary--stage works by Mozart, Machado, Handel, Dowland and others.

Shoot/Get Treasure/Repeat
Thursday May 4, 2017 to Saturday May 13, 2017

Shoot/Get Treasure/Repeat by Mark Ravenhill is an epic cycle of plays examining the personal and political effect of war on modern life.  Each of the plays is named after an existing classical work as Ravenhill stages the intensity of individual pain against a glimpsed vast narrative of conflict.  A child talks to a headless man, a woman is afflicted with mysterious intestinal pain, a couple talk about their garden bench, a soldier demands love from a woman whose country he has liberated.  Each new play is a fragment of suffering, and a fierce sardonic attack on the war on terror.  Viewer discretion is advised.

The Mission

Our ultimate goal here at The Leeward Theatre is to build community through live performance.  The more of our community that is allowed to access our events the more likely it is for young people and other individuals to take action to improve their community.  Creativity is life affirming – no matter the quality or value of what was created.  It is a step toward life; toward adding something to the world that did not exist before.  The Leeward Theatre exists as a place where creativity is practiced on a daily basis – where students, community members, and trained artists can engage with and empower one another.  This is not just a building on a college campus - it is living breathing extension of the community. It is a place that has the power to inspire, the power to enlighten, and the power to educate.
