#MeTOO: The Survivor's Circle (a review)
# ME TOO: The Survivor’s Circle, produced by Play Builders of Hawai’i Theater Company and directed by Terri Madden with survivor’s stories collected by Maisa Thayer is being performed by actors and survivors at the ARTS at Mark’s Garage.
A weekend of three performances just passed with three more showings scheduled to occur Nov. 16-18 on Friday, Saturday eves and with a Sunday matinee. I attended their past Sunday event and as a psychotherapist who has worked intensely with survivors of sexual assault, both individually and in groups, I found myself with my heart caught in my throat multiple times during the sharing. One could not tell who the actors were and who the survivors were. I found myself entirely immersed in the storied journeys of each victim who had become a survivor and went on to thrive. There is healing that occurred in this circle and continues to happen with each testimony witnessed by a welcoming and supportive audience. Bring your friends and family to this poignant play that will surely touch your heart and soul.
